This is our crew, posing in a landing craft.  This one was actually used in the filming of Saving Private Private Ryan.

This image really spoke to me.  This little girl is using a German 88 as playground equipment.

Eating lunch at L'ardoise

Caen.

You'll be happy to know the other 12 of us have safely joined Casey Cobb!

We're in Caen for the night & we will be moving to Vimoutiers in the morning.

After an 8 hour flight, 2 subway rides, one train ride, one tram ride, and some walking, we (finally) made it to our hotel.

We ate lunch, and then explored William the Conqueror's castle:
{our restaurant just happened to be located across the street from it!}

this castle was built in the 1,000's - hard to believe it's still standing today!

we think this may be the remains of a coat of arms.

positive a moat used to be here!

Caen is also home to many churches - we could count at least 9 from the top of the castle.

William the Conqueror's Castle

Students Arrived Safely

All students are in France and are doing well. They are very tired but we did go to William the Conqueror's Castle today. We will post some pics after this blog. We've had one slight problem, Zach Powers has lost his luggage. We are working on recovering it as we speak. Tomorrow, we pick up our vans and will visit several sites: A restored bunker, a German artillery battery, and several churches. In the evening, we will have dinner with a local Norman couple. They are preparing us a traditional Norman meal, four full courses.

Casey made many connections during his first four days in Normandy from the mayor of Vimoutiers to meeting the local British expat community. We will be meeting a veteran of the French Resistance who fought in Vimoutiers. Also, we may visit a local school and might even attend a country and western dance in Vimoutiers and we aren't kidding.

Tomorrow, we will post more pics of the places that we visit and maybe our first video. We hope that you follow along with our adventure.

liquid carry-on rules.

Here are the TSA rules for liquids in carry on bags...

3-1-1 for carry-ons
= 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
